I want to get this out in the open right off the bat. If you do not
run "keyed" programs, or just detest the key concept in general, then
delete this program right now!
In short, I've released programs both ways and it's blatantly evident
that non-expiring programs DON'T get registered! If you are one of
the VERY few who does register non-expiring shareware, then sorry
for the inconvenience. However, let me assure you that you are most
definitely in the minority!
Since I don't believe in "Crippleware" and this is my primary
occupation, I am forced to Key my software.
Now, if you're still interested in trying the program, continue.
Starting with this version, the is no longer a demo key distributed
with the software. Reason: The odds are that it will have expired
when you get it. I feel that it's better to have no key than an
expired one.
As you probably already know, most "keyed" programs won't work AT ALL
if there isn't a key. This one's a little different. You can take a
look at it in local mode without even having a key present! Simply
enter TLD at the dos prompt, and you will be able to go into the
program just like if you installed it as a door. I would suggest that
you go ahead and do that right now. No sense wasting your time
finding out how to get a key if you don't plan on doing it, right?
So, you've looked at the program and decided it's worth getting a key.
Now, how do you get one? Well, there are a few different ways. No matter
which one you choose, the first thing you need to do is run the Setup
program and choose the "Create [R]egistration Files" option. This is
the equivalent of filling out a registration form, or filling out the
questionnaire on my BBS. To get a DEMO key, you will need to do this.
I would suggest that you also go do that right now.
Now that you have a TLD.REG file, what do you do with it?
Well, if you're a Fidonet, ITCnet, or Entertainment Net member, simply
use your mailer to transmit the file to my system at one of the following
addresses:
Fido: 1:296/3
ITC : 85:838/101
Once the file is received on my system, it will be processed immediately.
If all the required information is present, then a 31 day demo key will
be returned to you, that's all there is to it!
OK, so you aren't a member of one of the afore mentioned nets, now what?
Well, you will need to call my BBS at (314) 328-1532. I'm open 24 hours
a day, and run a US Robotics Dual Standard 16.8 modem. Once you've
connected, you will be given the following options:
(C)ontinue on to Bumpkinland
(D)etour to the Software Support Center
If you've got the time (and cash) to spare, I invite you to log on as a
new member. I can guarantee you that you'll never see another BBS like it!
However, if you're like me, you would rather just get a key and get going
to save on the Long distance. If so, then (D)etour.
This will put you in the Bland Software Support door. This door can also
be accessed from the main menu of the BBS. It will allow you to download
my programs, get keys, view detailed descriptions of my other programs,
take a look at a program if you like, page me, or leave a message. Of
importance right now, is getting keys, so that's what I'll cover:
Once you're at the doors main menu, simply choose Get keys. When
you do, you will be asked whether or not you want to upload the
TLD.REG file created by SETUP.EXE. If you do so, once received, it
will be processed and a key will be created for you to download.
If you do not upload the file, then you will need to fill out a small
questionnaire. Same one included within SETUP. Once that's complete,
your key will be created and you can be on your way.
I have tried to make every attempt possible to make getting keys for
my programs as quick and easy as can be. If you have any suggestions
as to how to improve/simplify the process, without compromising it,
please feel free to forward them to me!
Thanx for trying The Labyrinth Door!
